HOOD, Associate Judge. This appeal presents the question whether there is any rule of law, statutory or otherwise, in this
jurisdiction which prohibits the granting of a divorce on the uncorroborated testimony of the complainant in an uncontested
action. The question has never been squarely decided, although there are a number of cases which imply that such a rule exists.
Those cases make reference to our statute now embodied in Code 1951, § 16-419, which provides: 'No decree for a divorce, or decree annulling a marriage, shall be rendered on default, without proof; nor shall any admission
contained in the answer of the defendant be taken as proof of the facts charged as the ground of the application, but the
same shall in all cases, be proved by other evidence.' 1 The earliest case touching on the subject is Lenoir v. Lenoir,
1904, 24 App.D.C. 160, 165, a suit for annulment of marriage on the ground of fraud. There the court, referring to the Code
section, said:
